The best film I have seen for a while.
Some of you may be sick of hearing the music of Abba again after a resurgence of it's popularity thanks to the worldwide release of the film "Mama Mia". I grew up with Abba and had always liked their music but that is not what encouraged me to see the film. I had seen the stage show a couple of years ago, which I had enjoyed and I wanted to see what they could do with the film. I have to say the film is absolutely brilliant, not only for the music, but for how it is put together and the fact that I have not laughed so much in a film for so long. It was far funnier than I expected it to be, and the music, rather than be dominant, was the glue that bound everything together. I don't want to give anything away for those of you who have not seen it yet, but I would encourage you to be brave and go and see it as soon as you can. Some people may say that this is a chick flick, but I can tell you, there were a lot of men in the theatre and at the end of the film, they were singing it's praises just as much as the ladies. I don't recall the last time I walked out of a theatre and the noise of those coming out was so jovial as they chatted about their favorite parts, men included, in fact they were the loudest. Meryl Streep & Pierce Brosnan, excelled themselves in their parts, as did the rest of the cast, but these two deserve a special mention. This film brings out he natural beauty of Meryl, that I had not realised was there before. She is truly one talented and beautiful lady. The whole cast were all perfectly suited to the roles they played and it was a delight to watch the picture unfild before your eyes. It has been said that they had so much fun making the film, that it was hard for them to think that they were working. This was reflected in the film as they told the story. I highly recommend this film to anyone who either needs a good laugh (I laughed so much I cried) or just likes laughing as this was certainly like a remedy for me. I hope you enjoy it even half as much as I did, and you will still be pretty happy.
